Pollution of the environment is not a modern phenomenon. It has been going on since people began to settle in towns and cities. The ancient Athenians and Romans, as history shows, polluted the environment. Because modern people refuse to acknowledge or correct their forefathers' mistakes, environmental pollution has persisted in a variety of forms. The first is air pollution, which is caused by mainly smoke. Burning fossil fuels and garbage is the primary source of smoke. This type of pollution is responsible for many respiratory diseases. Finding an alternative to burning fossil fuels and garbage may help in the prevention. Then there is water pollution, which is primarily caused by polluting various waterbodies. Garbage of various types is thrown into these waterbodies, polluting the water. Water pollution is the source of water-borne diseases. Finding a new way to dispose of garbage will significantly reduce the problem. Sound pollution is not far behind air pollution and water pollution in terms of severity. It is primarily caused by a variety of loud appliances. Hearing loss is due to sound pollution. The situation may be improved if sound-generating appliances are used carefully. There is also odour pollution, which is primarily caused by garbage piles alongside the road. Nasal irritation is the outcome of odour pollution. This annoyance can be eliminated with a regular cleaning drive. This is by no means an entire list, for environmental pollution takes many different forms.
